Team DAF (Jever, Germany) about Alcohol
Hi Courtney,
our names are Dennis, Alex & Focke, so we called our team “daf”. How do you spend your weekends and your freetime?
How do you celebrate parties?
Are you allowed to drink alcohol? And if not, are you able to buy any alcohol?
In Germany it's very easy to get hard alcohol under 18 years.
Best wishes, Focke, Alex and Dennis
Allie (USA) about Sports
Sports unite the world, because they require no language, simply the skills and conditioning of the human body. The pain, sweat, and endurance of running a 2 mile race or playing in a 2 hour long soccer game is something everyone can relate too. And everyone knows the feeling of euphoria when all that hard work pays off and you and your team win. Sports embody the universal concepts of pushing your limits for individual growth and for the good of a team, despite cultural, language, or personal barriers.
In America, we value success that comes from hard work, and we like to support the under dog. We love to see hard working athletes rise to fame and success, such as when the Red Sox, the baseball team of Boston, won the World Series after 86 years of struggling. We also love to see legends, sports heroes, even when past their prime, still playing and putting up a good fight, like Andre Agassi in the final match of the U.S. Open. In America, There is also however, a real feeling of brand loyalty to sports in America. For example, if you grow up in Boston, you will of course be a Red Sox fan, and even if you leave Boston, you will still be a Red Sox fan. Sports unite people, as fans for common teams come together and share their love of the game and support for their team.
The purpose of this project is for us to learn what sports mean to you and your countries. We know that here in the States, some people are very passionate about sports, and that it can mean a lot more than just winning a game. Do sports hold as big a role in your countries? What values do sports represent for you?
We want to know what sports mean for your countries, and why they are important. Here are a few other questions to guide you.
What sports are the most popular?
How are professional teams organized, and how do fans decide which teams to support?
Who are the sports legends and heroes?
Is it more popular to play or to be a fan?
Have you ever been to a professional game, and what was it like?
Thank you for considering my questions, and I hope that they give you some good ideas for feedback.

Courtney (USA) about Sports
Sports and recreations are a key to having a well-balanced community. Many people do not realize the importance of having a hobby, no matter what it is: a sport, community service, or a club. What would people do without sports? What if there was no such thing as the superbowl, the world cup, or the world series? What would the world be like? This is why one should believe that having sports and recreation in a community is not only a privilege; it should be considered a necessity!
Sports are known to unify people everywhere. People who are involved in sports learn the values of teamwork and get to experience bonding with others. Sports are a very general subject, therefore many people can relate to it. Last year in the town of Coventry, Connecticut, the high school’s boy’s varsity basketball team made it all the way to the finals. Though they were defeated, their venture to the finals game brought the town together. The team united the community. The crowds were roaring with excitement, cheering on their team. On the account of something as simple as a boy’s varsity basketball team, a community was brought together by sharing a common yet important interest; sports.
Recreation is also important to communities everywhere. People can express their feelings in some clubs, like in the GSA, or the Gay Straight Alliance. This organization brings people together in all sorts of communities, no matter what sexual orientation. Even in a poetry-reading club, people can express in their own twist of words the way they feel. Getting together with a friend to play tennis or basketball on a weekend is something anybody should be entitled to do in his or her community.
How do sports and recreation bring your community together? How does this subject affect your community? The purpose of this project is for you to let us know exactly that.
Consider these questions in your answer also.
In your community…
What sports seem to draw the most attention?
What clubs or organizations do you have? What are their purposes?
Are you involved in any sports or recreational activities? If so, what?
What activities are the most popular?
Team DAF (Jever, Germany) about Sports
Hey Courtney!
How are you? Yeah, sport is really important to connect people, but we think it’s more important in your country than in ours. We don’t have something like the Superbowl or Baseball. But do you all in your class like the Superbowl?
We (our group) aren’t really interested in sports … but we often have to use our bike to be mobile. We don’t live in a big city … we live in little villages around “Jever” (a city with 14.000 people) and visit school there. In Jever is the brewery where the wonderful Jever beer comes from. (Better than your “Miller-Beer”).
What do you do at your freetime? Do you prefer to do sport during the weekend or do you prefer celebrating parties? Our English lesson will end in a few seconds. We have to finish.
Nice greetings from Germany!

Moin (Here in this region is "moin" like "hello")
You don't know handball? We can't believe it.So we'll give you a description. There are two teams with seven players on each side. They are playing against each other trying to throw(with the hand like name says=) the ball into the goal. Around the goal is a 6meter half-circle which the players are not allowed to entry.the field is over 40 x 20meter.
Here are many sports you don't know. Or do you know? Bosseln? Klotschiessen?
These are regionally sports called "Friesisch" (as the region is called “Friesland”).
Many people here in Germany don't know these sports, too.
Do you have regional sports too?
Are there where you live sports you know we don't know?
SEE you later. Good bye,
Jochen & Kai
