Our school is a European school. That means that our school have many partner schools in Europe. For example we have the Comenius project that is about arts in different museums. We have the France exchange for all students, who have the subject France. Than we have the Texas exchange. That is a study group, who make two years a Texas project and in the end of it they fly for four weeks to Texas, go there to school with there exchange partners. At our school we have a European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL). This is an internationally accepted degree on computer knowledge. Describe a popular fad, fashion, or activity (GABY) In Uruguay what every girl is doing right now is cutting their hair in lots of layers so it is longer each time you go down. I do not know if it explains it well, but is something like that. It seems that you have more hair. The boys are doing something similar to their hair, cutting it all but the end of the hair, so they have what they call "chapas" here. Both styles are very unique, and they give the person a fashion style. I do not cut my hair in layers though. It is kind of "I like it on others' heads" lol The most famous activity that teenagers do in Uruguay during the day is to go to the shore of the river (Rio de la Plata) and drink "mate" which is a very hot tea typical from south South America, I mean Uruguay, Argentina, some Brazilians states, and Paraguay, but in Paraguay they drink it cold. Many friends gather together and have a talk; it is very fun to watch the sun set with you r friends drinking this typical tea. During the night, whatsoever, everybody does the same. People from 16 and up go to pubs to talk with friends and stuff, and after that go out dancing.

Describe a popular fad, fashion, or activity: (AMANDA) A popular fashion at my school would be wearing rubber-like bracelets. They say things like 'Breast Cancer' and 'Livestrong.' Each of these bracelets donates a portion of its price to their respective charity funds. They started to be a big fashion beginning with the yellow livestrong bracelets. A lot of people in my school bought them, though, not anyone I know well. Then all of the charity funds started to sell them, and the people in my school decided that they were cool. There are pink ones for breast cancer, red, white, and blue ones for support our troops; and red ones for Red Sox Nation. There are also some that don't have any funds or groups on them, and they are called 'power bracelets,' kind of like the power beads that were popular a while ago. These bracelets have qualities that the person wants to gain written on them. Many people wear them simply because they are the fashion, and others wear them to support their favorite charities.

Part II a Hello, this is Jamie & Vanessa and this is our presentation about our schools! (VANESSA) Name and Address of Class and school Hudson High School 69 Brigham Street Hudson, MA 01749 Number of students in class and school I guess my school is pretty big. We have a little over 1,000 students from 8th-12th grade. There is an average of about 20 kids per class. It all depends in what class you are taking. Academic classes tend to have more students than electives.

Size of school My high school is brand new. It is only two years old. This is my third year in the new building. It is big, and it is nice. It is two floors, but it is very long. There are six pods with seven classrooms in them. Then along the hallways, there are the science labs which are upstairs, and then there are the computer labs which are downstairs. We have an auditorium and a mini-theatre which are state-of-the-art facilities. Our gym is also very impressive, and it contains two basketball courts and an indoor track which is the second floor of the gym. There are two elevators in my school. My school is really nice.

School emblem, colors or mascot Our Mascot is the Hawk. We are the Hudson Hawks! Our colors are Red and White.

Type and number of computers I do not even now the exact count of the number of computers that we have. There are about seven computer labs with about 20 computers in them. Each classroom has at least two computers in them. In the science lab there are more than that. Each faculty member has his or her own laptop. The computer that is used is Dell. My school has many computers.

School History Hudson High School has been around for a long time. We have an important history. Hudson has been in a long rivalry against our next-door neighbor Marlboro. Every Thanksgiving we have the most anticipated football game of the year. We play Marlboro High, and this has been a tradition for over one hundred years. Hudson High School has changed from building to building in the past 50 years. What is now our elementary school was once our High School. Therefore, the population at Hudson High has increased. Hudson High moved to Brigham Street and stayed in that building for about 30 years. Two years ago they built a new building behind the old school, so now Hudson High has all new equipment and facilities. I do feel very privileged to be a part of Hudson High School.

(JAMIE) 1. Name and address of class and school Kunming International Academy. It is in Yan Jia Di Xiao Qu, Kunming, Yunnan 650034 P.R. China.

2. Number of students in class and school. There are about 260 students in KIA, K-12; there is a lot of variation in the class size. Some may have 8, and the largest is about 18.

3. Size of school KIA has five floors, no elevators. There are about 6 classes on each floor. The elementary school has a separate building across the courtyard. It has 2 floors with roughly 6 classes on each floor. The art and music rooms are also in that building.

4. School emblem, colors or mascot The school mascot is the KIA Knights. The colors are Red, White and Yellow.

5. Type and number of computers. The computer lab, which contains the computers that the students have access to, has 24 computers. Our computers are mostly Asian made. We have all the same programs that a normal American computer has- Microsoft Word, Excel, online access, etc...

6. School history KIA was started as a school for Missionary kids. When it first began, it had about five people in grades k-12 and was more of a home school type thing. Slowly it grew and grew into what it is today. It is still small compared to American schools, but it is not too bad. It continues to grow every year. Most of the high school classes are almost full now. It is no longer just American. Now many different people attend. We also have a lot of business kids, and volunteer kids.

Part II b

This is Allie and Coby, and these are the holidays that we all here, in the VHS class, are involved in. We'll begin with Coby's unique programs, and then Allie's calendar:

School program

1. List 3 things about your school program that make it unique. A couple of years ago my school, Forks High School, received a grant from Bill Gates to become a high tech high. As part of being a high tech high our school began to offer VHS classes. The first year or two VHS was an under the radar, mysterious thing it seemed like. Over the last couple of school years VHS has broadened, and now more than half the student body is enrolled in a VHS program or has taken a VHS course. Our school is one of the only schools in Northwest Washington to be classified as a "high tech high" with VHS as a mainstream class choice. That is how VHS is unique to my school.

Another unique thing about our school is that we offer an internship program. I am not sure if other schools do that. I think it is a pretty cool thing, and you even get a grade for it, which makes it even better.

Lastly, another unique part of my school is how involved everyone is with the school. Our school offers a lot of different programs other than sports, so every one can do something. We practice being "inclusive" and making sure everyone is involved in an assembly or skit once throughout their high school career. It might sound corny, but the moral around our school is pretty good, and everybody gets along.

2. These are the holidays and special events between September and January that may affect our participation.

September 5- Labor Day (US) 15-25 Spring Break (Uruguay)

October 4- Rosh Hashanah (Jewish) 5- Ramadan begins (Islamic) 10- Columbus Day (US) 13- Yom Kippur (Jewish)

November 11- Veteran’s Day (US) 24-28 Thanksgiving (US and Uruguay)

December 25- Christmas (Christian) 26- January 2nd Channukah (Jewish) / Winter Vacation 31- New Year’s Eve (US)

January 1- New Year’s Day (US) 2- Winter Vacation (US) 16- Martin Luther King Day (US) 17- No School (US)

PART III. INTRODUCING THE COMMUNITY]

There were about 30 participants in this survey. They were students, working adults, and retirees from the town of Coventry, Connecticut. The questions on the survey were as follows (NOTE: These are not the direct answers of the participants who took this survey. The answers have been shortened and generalized.):

Hi, this is Courtney, and this is my presentation!! A. Your community 1. What is the name of your town/community? Coventry

2. If your town is not a city, what is the name of the nearest city? Hartford

3. What is the location of your community (state, province, etc.)? Coventry is in Connecticut, which is in New England, or the northeastern United States.

4. What is the population of your town/community? About 11,000-12,000 people.

5. If you had to pick three words to describe your community, what would they be, and why? Small, rural, close. Small because, well, Coventry is small! It is rural because there are a lot of farms and agricultural places. Coventry is close because everybody knows each other, and pretty much everybody gets along, almost like a big family.

B. Sports and Recreation

1. What kind of sports do you have in your community? We have club teams for sports for children from the ages of 5 to 15. These sports include soccer, football, baseball, soccer, and basketball.

2. Do you or have you participated in any of them? If so, what ones? Yes, I played club soccer and basketball (I’m too old now), and I am on the school soccer team.

3. How do sports and recreation affect your community? Explain. They bring my community closer together. It makes people bond and come together to support a common cause.

4. Do you have recreational facilities in you community? If so, what facilities are made available? There are recreational facilities at the high school. There are three tennis courts, two basketball courts, six soccer fields, a track, and a football field. There are also more soccer fields and basketball courts throughout the town, like at Laidlaw and Patriot’s Park, and at Lisicke Beach.

5. Do you believe it is significant for a town to have sports and recreation? Why or why not? Yes I do because it gives people of all ages something to do in their spare time, whether it is watching a sport or participating in it.

C. Activities

1. Are there any activities such as clubs or organizations in your community (ex: brownies, cub scouts, GSA Club, etc.)? What purpose do they serve? Yes. There are brownies, cub scouts, GSA, Police Helpers, Community Service and Human Services Club, Albert Schweitzer Club, and Youth Advisory Board. The GSA is the Gay-Straight Alliance, and they promote equality no matter your sexual orientation. Police Helpers is pretty self explanatory… they get to be an aide to a police officer for a few weeks, no serious crime involved there. Albert Schweitzer club is a community service club that collects food, clothing, and toys for homeless shelters. The Youth Advisory Board helps teens with issues such as home difficulties, domestic violence, abuse (physical, sexual, substance), and just talk to teens if they are lonely.

2. If so, what are they, and do you or have you participated in them? Yes. I was in brownies, and I am in the Albert Schweitzer club, and I am on the Youth Advisory Board.

3. How do these activities affect your community? Explain. They make the community a better place. All the community service that a lot of clubs do make the town nicer.

4. Do you believe that it is important for a town to provide its people with activities? Why or why not? Yes I do. If a community does not provide these activities to their people, what will they do in their spare time? I think it would cause issues, because teens are already subject to peer pressure, and I feel that in their spare time they would be more likely to do drugs or drink.

Hoped you liked it!
