Topic: Music festivals
We hope you enjoyed our introduction. Now it’s time to present our topic. We thought a long time about it so we don't really know if you like it.
Our topic is Music festivals! Every year a lot of festivals take place in Germany and other countries. For example "Rock am Ring", "Rock im Park", "Hurricane", "Bizarre". Many famous bands come to this festivals and rock on stage. Thousands of people enjoy the big concerts and have just a lot of fun. The festivals take always place in the summer, where the people get drunk quickly because of the hot sun but it's really fun.
So we want to know:
- if you go to those kind of festivals
- have you visited a concert? Which one? Did you enjoy it?
- Do famous bands come to your country to give a concert? Who?
Would be nice if you wrote back! :)
Good-bye Soenke, Maddy and Inga ( Nimatewi ) , 11b, Jever

Hi you three!!!

Unfortunately I must say I have never been on such a big festival as Hurricane but I have heard about it even in Latvia. I know people who plan their holiday especially for this occasion and then go to Germany by bus. On the other hand there are a lot of fantastic groups in my country, so they are still able to organise smaller festivals. I always try to visit some of them but there are mostly no famous names, although a year ago I saw The Crush – I am quite sure that they come from Scandinavia which is also typical of Latvia -  we know the groups from Sweden, Finland and Norway much better than those from west – Europe. It’s difficult to convince big stars to visit Baltic states – they have to earn something and I’m sure that’s not so easy with such small populations like Estonia. However I’m still hoping...:) At the same time Placebo and Him have been already twice in Latvia and about 2 years ago Marilyn Manson gave a concert in Lithuania.

The biggest one I’ve ever visited was definitely of Apocalyptica. It was about three years ago and although they weren’t so famous that time as they are now, I was really, really impressed.

But you know, I would be happy to go either to Hurricane or to Roskilde in Denmark one day. I’m sure it’s worth that.

See you soon! Evija, 11b, Jever

Hello Inga, Soenke and Maddy!
First, what's the meaning of "Nimatewi"? Has it a meaning or is it just a name?
But now to our main topic: music!
I'm Kaddi and I like punk. My favourite band is Green Day and I also like Sum 41, Blink 182, New Found Glory, My Chemical Romance and so on... I like to visit concerts even if I haven`t seen that much. In January I was at a Green Day Concert and it was just amazing!! I also like playing the guitar, or I better say: I try to. Meeting friends and going to parties are hobbies of mine, too. And I like to play computer games.
Hey, I'm Birte! My favourite music is punk-rock. I like Blink 182 (it's defenetley my favourite!), Yellowcard, Sugarcult, New Found Glory and bands like that. Last year in december I have visit a Blink 128 concert; Sugarcult played before them. In January I wanted to go to the Green Day concert with Kaddi, but I was ill... In addition to that I visited little "concerst" like "Bandcontest" or a concert of Fidget.

Hey you
I want to write something to your topic because Inga told me that she’s a little bit sad because nobody has written to their topic. You’ve asked if I visited a concert and which one it was. Okay, my first concert was a concert of the Kelly Family. I was 10 years old and I loved this music at that time. My next concert was in Wilhelmshaven at the Weekend of the Jade ;) and the band I’ve seen was "Echt". I fell in love with the singer because he looks very good. My last concert was "Die happy" last year in wilhelmshaven. I visited it with one of you, INGA and it was very funny because there were funny visitors and the music was very nice. I like concerts very much because it’s another feeling as if you just listening the music on a cd-player. But the problem is: concerts and festivals are very expensive. I don’t have the money to visit every concert of my favourite bands, that’s very sad. Here, in friesland and wilhelmshaven there aren’t concerts very often, just from boring and unknown bands. What do you think about concerts and festivals?
What are your favourite bands?
I hope you’ll write back your classmate Verena

Hendrik and me were together at two concerts "Die Ärzte"- concerts, one in Bremerhaven and one open air in Oldenburg. Hendrik also went to a "Pur"-concert in Berlin  and I saw "The Kelly Family" in Wilhelmshaven (I WAS a big fan!!!). A long time ago Mel went to a "Backstreet Boys"- concert and to a "Britney Spears"-concert (she's so ashamed). Also she saw twice "Die Happy", she saw "Die Toten Hosen", "Boehse Onkelz" .

Hi Inga,
I have not been to a festival, yet. I want to go to one in the summer holidays, but probably my parents will not allow. Whatever.
I went to some concerts of my favourit bands, but they weren't so far away and not really speacial, I think. I really really liked them, and I also like jumping around to good music. It is fun and it makes you feel free.
How do you feel on concerts? Do you dance/jump or do you just stand in the backround and just listend and enjoy?
Have you been to a big festival? What did you take with you? I sometimes think about, what I have to pack in my bags, like food or shampoo?
well, see you greetings Jantje, 11e, Jever

Hello Inga!

I think your topic was music festivals and I want to tell you something about Hurricane. On Friday we will buy our tickets for the Hurricane. It's very exciting for me, because it's my first festival with more than thousand people. First I wanted to go to Rock am Ring, but the trip to Berlin is at the same time. (I think you know that..) Do you go to the Hurricane? Most I am looking forward to Oasis. Some friends of me say that Oasis will cancel the concert, but I hope they don't do so. We will see... I think it's a little bit sad that a lot of people go to a festival, because it's a big party with a lot of alcohol and so on. The ticket is very expensive and when you are drunk the whole time, it's mentally deficient. I look forward to camping and so on.

So, I hope you’ll enjoy it, we’ll see tomorrow, Kirsten, 11b, Jever

Hiho Nimatewi!!

I know festivals like "Rock am Ring", "Rock im Park", "Hurricane" and so on but I’ve never been there. The main problem is I’m a fan of Hip Hop music and not of Rock music. The music festivals you told about where all rock-concerts. There are only a few Hip Hop concerts, for example “Splash!” or “Flash”. I’ve never been on these festivals, either. I think it’s too expensive.

But isn’t it like a little music festival, when my friends give a “gig”? I think it is. Think about “Rok an Schlos” (yes, without “c”, with “n” and one “s”). It was a funny festival with lots of people at Schloss Gödens. I think it’s better, when there are 100 people and I know everyone. I have no advantage, when there are 10000 fans around me and they are all strangers. And for the inexperienced bands like “Stupid-Noise” it’s easier to play in front of friendly faces.

So, when you’ll go to a big music festival have a lot of fun!

Cya on “Rok an Schlos 2005” … :P

Bye Olaf, 11b, Jever

Hello Soenke!

Would you like to talk with me at first about our own topic? I know that you’ll go to the Hurricane festival in June and maybe I’ll be there, too. Which bands are you looking forward to?

I recognize that on the Hurricane festival are many bands who don’t visit “Rock am Ring”, e.g. Rammstein or System of a down. It’s amazing that bands like them will come to a “little” festival in Scheeßel and miss the big “Rock am Ring” festival in Nürburg. What do you think why are they doing so? I cannot imagine that there is a reason for but maybe in your opinion there is one?! And I’m very interested in what kind of bands you don’t want to see?

I’m sure that I’ll miss Iron Maiden because I dislike the look and the music of this band.

My last question for this e-mail is: Are there any bands who don’t come to the “Hurricane” but you still want to see?

Okay, Soenke. I’ll stop here because I know that you don’t like reading e-mails which are pretty long.

I wish you a nice day! Bye, bye Inga, 11b, Jever

Hello Inga

That I got a message from you made me really happy and now I want write you an e-mail to make you happy.

You ask me which bands I am looking forward to. The bands which I want to see at the festival in Scheeßel are System of a Down, Millencolin, Audioslave, Beatsteaks and Nine Inch Nails. I like them all but my favourite one is Millencolin.

In my opinion a lot of bands are missing Rock am Ring because there was something wrong a few years ago or the feeling to play at Scheeßel is better than in Nürburg. Another reason could be that Scheeßel is not so big and that the bands are missing the big festival at Nürburg because of that reason.

Perhaps the music style is a different one at the Rock am Ring and so they will come to Hurricane.

I don’t want to see a band whose music style is too heavy like Heavy Metal or Trash Metal or things like that.

The question which bands I will miss at the festival or which bands will not come to Hurricane and I want to see is a really good one.

That Billy Talent will not be there is very sad and Green Day I would like to see but maybe next year they will come to the festival I will go to!!!

So I hope all your questions are answered and you are happy.

Bye Bye Soenke, 11b, Jever

Hi @ nimatewi!...

In short, I don’t like Live-music. The recordings of a sound studio is more perfect and myself I try to settle everything I do, so it isn’t difficult to understand why I like this kind of music.

On the other hand the feeling on a concert is incomparable to a CD. Everybody is having fun and it’s … it’s indescribable. In short… it’s just a big party… with good music… but in my opinion not perfect.

I don’t want to pay 100€ for a festival (like you) just to listen to some rock bands. I’d rather invest my money in useful things (like shishas ;)).

But don’t misunderstand me… if you invite me to Hurrican I would come along with you…

Think about it!

Greets Henrik, 11b, Jever

Hello Verena!

Thank you very much for your e-mail. It was very nice to hear from you because we didn't see each other for a long time ;) . It was very interesting to read what kind of concerts you've visited.

Kelly Family sounds funny but I know when we were young we all had a bad taste of music.

I can remember the Die Happy concert and it was really funny. This concert was the first one I've ever visited. On the 5th of February 2005 I was on a R.E.M. concert in Hannover and let me tell you it was awesome. The show on the stage was pretty amazing so I was really happy about the fact that my parents persuaded me to go to this concert.

And some people were jealous about it. Just think about our nice and sweet  Henrik :) When I was young I wanted to visit a concert of the boygroup "Five" but the nearest town where they gave a concert was Berlin and my parents didn't want to go with me to this concert. As an 11-year-old-year girl I was very sad about it. But nowadays I'm pretty happy that I was not allowed to go to this concert because the music of boygroups is awful!!!!

I'm sure that I'll visit some other concerts in the future but I don't know what kind of. Maybe on our Berlin trip with Mr. Warns? ;)

See you, Inga, 11b, Jever

Guck guck Olärrf!

Thanks a lot for your beautiful e-mail. You know the festivals "Rock am Ring" and so on and believe it or not I know the festival "Splash". I'm just thinking of this nice song of ( I guess) Aggro Berlin which is called "Ausrasten und Pogen"and it goes like this: "Splash, dab dab dab, Party, Saufen, Alkohol und Drogen" and so on. I'm sure you know what I mean.

You're right with saying that any of these festivals is too expensive.

It's nice when your friends give a little concert but a festival with thousands of people and many music bands is even better. Ok, it may have to do with your taste of music.

I can't say that I enjoy concert of "Stupid-Noise", "Bios" and all the others.

I don't like their music but I'm impressed that they all can play an instrument and I respect it because I cannot play one.

Yeah, Rok an Schlos was pretty nice but my jump over the "Graben" hurt me but I know that you know this little bad story of me.

I hope this year everything will be different. But all in all it was a nice little festival. I guess there were more people than on such a concert at "Pferdestall" or "Juz-Jever".

All right Oläf, let's say good-bye and let us looking forward to our Berlin trip in June.

Cheerio,

Inga , 11b, Jever

Hi Inga!
Of course, I remember your accident on Rok an Schlos... I was really hard. Your ankle was green andblue for a few weeks... I think that there will be more people than last year. I talked with the organizer Maxi and he told me that he would ask some big car-shops like Stöver etc. for sponsoring. He will also buy a big stage for the bands. Next he will organize beer-houses/tents and so on. He designed posters an flyers to make the event more popular. Sometimes, I think he is a megalomaniac.
But I'm sure we'll have a lot of fun.
cya, Olaf, 11b, Jever

Hey Kirsten,

Thank you very much for your e-mail. Nice to hear that you’ll go to the “Hurricane” festival.

I’m not sure whether I’ll go to it, too. I wanted to go to “Rock am Ring” like you, too but we know that it takes place at the same time as our Berlin Trip. Next year I’ll go to “Rock am Ring”, you bet!

You’re right with saying that people waste their money when they are drunk on such an amazing festival. You pay nearly 100 Euro and so you should enjoy all of the bands you’re looking forward to but you have to be sober.

You’re the last person in the e-mail project who I’m telling this. I was on two concerts. Die Happy in Wilhelmshaven at the Pumpwerk and R.E.M. in Hannover at the Tui Arena. Both of them were amazing.

Well, have a nice day. Cheerio, Inga, 11b, Jever

Dear Inga,
thanks for your e-mail. I  don't know either why you got my e-mail about suicide.
I read that your theme is music festivals. for me it is difficult to write something about this topic.  Two years ago I went to a concert for the first time and until now it has remained the only time I have been to one  (Toten Hosen in Oldenburg). but when I'm eighteen years old I think I will go to a bigger festival like rock am ring or to something like that. In my opinion it would be unfriendly to end  the e-mail here, because it was an effort for you to answer my e- mail.
So, I want to tell you something about another festival. It is called Christopher Street Day. I don't know if you have ever heard something about. it is a festival for homosexual men and women. now please don't think that I'm...No, on holiday I was at my grandpa’s, he is a reporter and he had to write about this festival and so I could see all of the parade. I believe I will never forget this day. all over there were people in latex clothes. for example men as angels and women as devils. They distributed roses . We drove with a big reporter van through the town and could watch all the crazy people. The next time when it will be in a town near  Jever I’ m going to visit it again because it is an event you simply have to see.
If you like you can write again I would like that. Maybe you would like to tell me your opinion on my topic death penalty.
nice greetings ann-christin, 11d, Jever

Dear Tahereh!
But now I want to write about another topic like music. Do you like music? What kind of music to you listen to? Is music important for you?
I love music and I always listen to rock, ska or alternative rock. I know a lot of bands but most bands I listen to are unknown.
Once a year I go to a very, very big music festival which is called “Hurricane“ and the other festival I visited was called “terremoto“, but this festival not allowed to take place.
Do you know music festivals?
Please write back soon.
All the best, Friederike, 11b, Jever
